Regional Innovation for Peloponnese - RIPE

Description
RIPE Project (Regional Innovation for Peloponnese) is a program which aims to the introduction of innovation to the Region of Peloponnese and it is being implemented within the framework of the european program "Innovative Actions 2000-2006". Similar programs are being implemented in several E.U. member states (approximately 133 programs), within the framework of an effort of E.U. to promote innovation to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of the Region. These programs aim to help in this way at the SME`s growth, so that they can remain competitive and contribute to the broader economic and social growth of the Region. The Arcadia Chamber, supported by the G.S. of the Region of Peloponnese, submitted a proposal for this program, which was approved by the E.U. on 15.03.2002. The Arcadia Chamber was appointed as the managing body of the project. The project`s duration is 24 months and its actions cover the entire Region of Peloponnese. The financial contribution of E.U. is 1.913.600 euros. Public funding is approximately 478.000 euros and private funding is 173.000 euros.

Benefits of RIPE project
The main aim of RIPE project is to strengthen and support all the institutions and citizens of the Region of Peloponnese. More specifically it is addressed:
- To small and medium-sized enterprises of the Region
- To ecotourism entrepreneurs and tour operators
- To enterprises that produce and distribute local traditional products
- To development institutions of the Region
- To professional associations, social institutions, local institutions and citizens of the Region of Peloponnese.

Innovation
Innovation for an enterprise is the ability to operate in a different way. The adoption of innovation by a company can help it become more effective, productive and finally more competitive. Innovation can cover a very wide range of a firm`s functions (from the facility layout and production scheduling of the enterprise up to the packaging and the promotion of its products in the market). Some examples of a company`s innovative applications are:
- A new packaging that upgrades the image of the product
- The collaboration of similar enterprises in order to promote their products through a high cost advertising campaign that a company would not be able to afford on its own.
- A new original product
- The use of new technologies

RIPE`s contribution to the Region of Peloponnese
- It will support and promote enterprises that are activated in certain economic industries, in which the Region of Peloponnese possesses certain advantages.
- It will offer the tools and the education on the new information technologies to the Region, so that it will no longer be isolated from national development.
- It will deliver to the Region a plan for obtaining financial support for innovative actions from the Community Support Framework for the period 2004-2006 or even for the next C.S.F.
